During tonight’s Super Series Semifinal 2 Round, an additional 32 cowboys and cowgirls secured a spot in the Super Series Championship set for March 17.
TIE-DOWN ROPING
Shane Hanchey of Sulphur, Louisiana, advanced to the RODEOHOUSTON Super Series Championship in Tie-Down Roping after having the fastest time of 7.7 seconds in Semifinal 2. Hanchey said his 16-year-old horse Bam Bam is one of the best ones here at RODEOHOUSTON.
“It feels good to be here,” Hanchey said. “I won in 2011 [and] I have confidence [competing] in this building.”

BAREBACK RIDING
Ty Breuer of Mandan, North Dakota, and David Peebles of Powell Butte, Oregon, had the highest scores in Bareback Riding in Super Series Semifinal 2 with two 87-point rides.

TEAM ROPING
With a time of 4.4 seconds in Semifinal 2, Team Ropers Kaleb Driggers and Junior Nogueira secured a spot in the Super Series Championship. Junior Nogueira said patience is the number one key to success, and although he’s not very good at being patient, he’s learning.
“All dreams become possible,” Nogueira said. “If you don’t give 100 percent, there are 150 other guys out there [who will].”

SADDLE BRONC RIDING
Saddle Bronc rider Wade Sundell, of Coleman, Oklahoma, advanced to the Super Series Championship after his 89-point ride in Super Series Semifinal 2.
“The electricity in this building gets you wound up, and you got to get wound up to win,” Sundell said.

STEER WRESTLING
Baylor Roche, of Tremonton, Utah, advanced to the Super Series Championship in Steer Wrestling after his fast run of 3.9 seconds in Semifinal 2. Roche said that he rides left-handed, thanks to his dad.
“My dad taught me to ride with my free hand as my dominant hand,” Roche said. “It’s supposed to give more balance.”

BARREL RACING
Two Texas athletes took the top spots in Barrel Racing during Semifinal 2. Taci Bettis of Round Top and Fallon Taylor of Collinsville tied for the fastest time with two 14.74-second runs. Both advanced to the RODEOHOUSTON Super Series Championship.

BULL RIDING
Tyler Bingham, of Honeyville, Utah, took the top spot in Bull Riding in Super Series Semifinal 2 with an 88-point ride, and advanced to the Championship.
Bingham said he still gets butterflies when he competes because of the excitement, and has to “keep going, keep going, keep riding until the bell.”

The top four from each event in the Semifinal rounds advance to the RODEOHOUSTON Super Series Championship on Saturday, March 17. The remaining six from each event in the two semifinals will compete in the Wild Card Round, Friday, March 16, where the top two from each event will advance to the Championship. Each event champion will walk away with a $50,000 payout, in addition to previous winnings. The RODEOHOUSTON Super Series continues through March 17, with the RODEOHOUSTON Super Shootout: North America’s Champions® presented by Crown Royal, on Sunday, March 18.
