Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™ officials are proud to announce the induction of two of rodeo’s most accomplished competitors into the 2027 RODEOHOUSTON Hall of Fame: tie-down roping champions Joe Beaver and Fred Whitfield.

The RODEOHOUSTON Hall of Fame recognizes individuals whose contributions have helped shape the success, legacy and lasting impact of the Rodeo. Beaver and Whitfield join an elite group of honorees whose achievements have left a lasting mark on both RODEOHOUSTON and the sport of rodeo.

“Joe Beaver and Fred Whitfield have helped define excellence in professional rodeo,” said Chris Boleman, president and CEO of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. “Their success in the arena, longevity in the sport and commitment to those coming behind them have left a lasting legacy. We are proud to honor their remarkable careers and welcome them into the RODEOHOUSTON Hall of Fame.”

A native of Victoria, Texas, Beaver is one of the most decorated tie-down ropers in professional rodeo history. During his career, he earned three RODEOHOUSTON All-Around Champion titles in 1995, 1997 and 2000, as well as the 1996 RODEOHOUSTON Tie-Down Roping Championship. He went on to win eight PRCA World Championships, qualify for the National Finals Rodeo 22 times and earn the 1985 PRCA Rookie of the Year title. Inducted into the ProRodeo Hall of Fame in 2000, Beaver remains active in the sport as a respected analyst for the National Finals Rodeo timed events and through roping clinics held across the United States.

Whitfield, a Cypress native who continues to call the Houston area home, built a celebrated career as one of rodeo’s premier tie-down ropers. He captured RODEOHOUSTON Tie-Down Roping Championship titles in 2000 and 2013, while also earning eight PRCA World Championships, qualifying for the National Finals Rodeo 20 times and receiving the 1990 PRCA Rookie of the Year award. Whitfield became the third cowboy in professional rodeo history to surpass $2 million in career earnings and was inducted into the National Rodeo Hall of Fame in 2000 and the ProRodeo Hall of Fame in 2004.

Together, Beaver and Whitfield built careers that left a lasting mark on tie-down roping and RODEOHOUSTON.  Their success across decades of competition reflects the skill and competitiveness that defined their careers while helping preserve the traditions of professional rodeo.

Beaver and Whitfield join the distinguished list of previous RODEOHOUSTON Hall of Fame inductees, whose achievements have helped shape the history and tradition of the world’s largest livestock exhibition and rodeo.

An induction ceremony will take place during the 2027 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. Additional details regarding the ceremony will be announced at a later date.
