Area Go Texan Counties Dominate 2017 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™ Go Texan Contests

The 2017 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Go Texan Contests took place Saturday, Jan. 28, at The Great Southwest Equestrian Center in Katy, Texas. Top teams representing Area Go Texan counties and Houston Metro Go Texan areas competed in ranch sorting, washer pitching, dominoes and horseshoe pitching. Area Go Texan counties took home four out of the five championship titles.

Junior Division

  • Grand Champion: Kailei Gaines and Kayden Frazier — Area Go Texan, Comanche County
  • Second Place: Faith Coe and Triston Johnson — Houston Metro Go Texan, Tomball/Magnolia/Willis
  • Third Place: Jorden Beran and Cameron Suehs — Area Go Texan, Burleson County

Senior Division

  • Grand Champion: Chuck Sherretts and John Hickey — Houston Metro Go Texan, Spring Branch/Memorial
  • Second Place: Melissa Welch and Glenn Welch — Area Go Texan, Robertson County
  • Third Place: Kenneth Marbach and Tommy Marbach — Area Go Texan, Victoria County

WASHER PITCHING

  • Grand Champion: Dustin Wernecke and Danny Supak — Area Go Texan, Austin County
  • Second Place: Jason Osborne and Braiden Adams — Area Go Texan, Lampasas County
  • Third Place: Jeff Schwartz and Stephen Scheffer — Area Go Texan, Washington County

DOMINOES

  • Grand Champion: Lenny Krause and Keith Krause — Area Go Texan, Washington County
  • Second Place: Lee Rehak and CJ Janacek — Area Go Texan, Fayette County
  • Third Place: Larry Burrows and Bernie Ofczarzak — Area Go Texan, Burleson County

HORSESHOE PITCHING

  • Grand Champion: Elwood Hieden and Doris Hieden — Area Go Texan, Burleson County
  • Second Place: Brenda Sablatura and Louis Engelhardt — Houston Metro Go Texan, Lamar/Needville
  • Third Place: Lori Finke and Jeff Finke — Area Go Texan, Washington County

QUILTS

A combination of colorful patterns and intricately sewn designs graced the 2017 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Go Texan quilts competition, judged prior to Saturday’s events. A total of 71 quilt entries created stiff competition in 14 categories. Quilts were judged based on overall appearance, workmanship, suitability/color, originality and design. Look for championship quilts on display in the lobby of NRG Center during the run of the Show, March 7 – 26.
