A WAVE OF EMOTIONS FLOWED THROUGH NRG STADIUM AS THE 2022 HOUSTON LIVESTOCK SHOW AND RODEO™ GRAND CHAMPION JUNIOR MARKET STEER WAS SELECTED

Out of more than 1,750 steers, the top 34 were brought into NRG Stadium to select a champion in the 2022 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Junior Market Steer Show.

Sixteen-year-old Aven Horn and her Other Cross steer, Vanilla Ice, became the newest Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Grand Champion Market Steer.

The sophomore from Anson, Texas, said, “there are no words. We have put in so much work over the past year and it has finally paid off.”

Aven was raised around the cattle industry and has been showing since she was in the third grade. She attributes her desire to show cattle to her parents, who both showed in high school.

“Winning Grand Champion Steer at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo means so much,” said Aven. “Words can’t even describe the quality of cattle that come here. To win here means everything.”

The title of Reserve Grand Champion Junior Market Steer was awarded to Tristan Himes from Sterling City, Texas, for his Other Cross steer.

For Tristan, a junior in high school, showing cattle is what he eats, sleeps and breathes.

Being able to do so well at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo makes all of the hard work worth it.

“It takes an army to make a steer look this good,” said Tristan.

An army of family and friends were able to make this dream a reality for Tristan.
