The Center for Safe and Secure Schools (CSSS) was established in 1999 at the request of school superintendents to advance safe and secure environments for learning and teaching. CSSS partners with federal, state and local entities to take the lead in the development of increased mental health and climate and culture trainings, safety and security strategies, standards and best practices for K-12 school environments for both students and educators. Some of our course offerings include Youth Mental Health First Aid, Restorative Practices, and Trauma-Informed care.

Houston Health Department

Young men of color in our community face persistent barriers due to systemic racism and social inequities. From disparities in education and employment to unequal treatment in the justice system, these challenges limit their potential and opportunities. My Brother’s Keeper seeks to address these gaps by creating pathways to success for boys and young men of color. Through mentorship, workforce development, and advocacy, we empower these young people to overcome obstacles and build brighter futures.

Social Justice Learning Institute

At SJLI, our mission is to educate and empower youth to succeed in school and beyond. Through our two flagship programs in Houston, we support students from high school through college—providing them with the tools, mentorship, and encouragement needed to achieve academic success, navigate college, and grow into confident leaders.  Urban Scholars (High School): Offers students academic support, college and career preparation, leadership development, and life skills coaching.  Postsecondary Success Program (College Students): Supports students as they transition to and through college—offering continued guidance and resources to help them stay on track and complete their education.

Education Foundation of Harris County

The Education Foundation of Harris County (EFHC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that works alongside the Harris County Department of Education (HCDE) to bridge resource gaps across 25 independent school districts in Harris County. EFHC provides scholarships to graduating seniors attending public or ISD authorized charter schools, nominated by a counselor or administrator—with preference given to those pursuing trade schools or community colleges. Independent charter, private school, and home-schooled students are not eligible. In addition to scholarships, EFHC administers the Tools for Teachers program, which offers a $100 credit toward classroom supplies to eligible Harris County public and ISD charter school educators each fall—funded by an annual HCDE allocation—to reduce out-of-pocket teacher expenses. The foundation also oversees the Partners in Education grant initiative, awarding campus  and district level grants to support STEM and literacy programs, curriculum innovation, and other urgent educational priorities throughout Harris County schools
