With every stitch carefully considered, each detail of the boot tells a story. Here at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, we value our four main pillars- Western heritage, agriculture, education, and entertainment, and each one is represented on the boot by a star.
Additionally, the 109 smaller stars featured throughout the design represent our dedicated volunteer committees. Over 35,000 volunteers make up the backbone of the organization. Muffy King. Director of Marketing says, “The gold stitching is a true testament of how our volunteers are woven into the fabric of everything that we do here in the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo.” In a truly unique fashion, the Rodeo wouldn’t be what it is today without their dedication.
As a nod to Western heritage, and our famous 20-day annual event, the round braid along the sides and the collar represents the ropes used throughout the competitions. Chairman of the Board, Pat Mann Phillips notes, “This collaboration is one we are incredibly proud of. Our volunteers and our four pillars are the backbone of this organization. This design exemplifies just that. We hope everyone who us lucky enough to get their hands on a pair, wears them with pride.”
Lane Boots is famously known for their signature turquoise boot sole, but this design takes a bold twist, blending the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo’s bright orange and Bow H logo displayed on the bottom. Phillips states, “We are the world’s largest livestock show and rodeo.” With this being said, agriculture is deeply ingrained in our culture, and with over 30,000 exhibitors, the logo is a powerful representation of the agriculture community.
Of course, no tribute to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo would be complete without a Texas silhouette, featuring a star over Houston. This symbol, found on the back of the boot, reflects the organization’s dedication to supporting education in Texas. Since it began in 1932, the Rodeo has committed over $630 million to benefit the youth and education of Texas. Each year, more than 800 scholarships are awarded to deserving students within the community.
And in one of the Rodeo’s most exciting elements – entertainment – the dazzling pillar is represented in a front starburst.
