The contestants of Super Series I secured their spots for the RODEOHOUSTON® Semifinals and are one step closer to winning the $65,000 grand prize.
Team ropers, Tyler Tryan and Denton Dunning, topped the leaderboard and qualified for the Semifinal 1. “We’ll try to keep doing the same thing as before,” Dunning said. “It feels good to compete here [RODEOHOUSTON] for the first time.”
Dawson Hay had a tough night with no score but finished on top of the series last night. Hay explained God had everything to do with his success, and his family made it all worth it. “It’s special to see my wife and little girl jumping up and down cheering for me,” Hay said.
Bull rider Mason Moody ended night three with no score but won the series. “I needed to stay where I was, God saw that and it will all work out,” Moody said. “You come out here to the biggest rodeo, and you’re set up for the rest of the year,” Moody added.
After a successful run, tie-down roper Kincade Henry from Mount Pleasant, Texas, secured his spot for Semifinal 2. “I’m going to go home, practice, and compete at another rodeo to prepare for the Semifinals,” Henry said. “RODEOHOUSTON is my favorite place to compete.
Bareback rider Waylon Bourgeois lived up to his name after scoring an 87, which put him at the top of the series. He shared how rewarding it feels to come out on top. “Everyone is striving to be the best, and it feels good when that is you,” Bourgeois said.
Tyler Waguespack claimed the top spot in Steer Wrestling and will move on to Semifinal 2. To perform his best in the next round he says he will stay in practice every day because the magnitude and atmosphere of RODEOHOUSTON adds some pressure.
With a time of 14.35 seconds at RODEOHOUSTON, Lisa Lockhart will move forward to compete in Semifinal 1. Lockhart has been competing at RODEOHOUSTON for over twenty years. “It is a reward, and all my hard work pays off when I make it here,” Lockhart said.
Shayla Hall was ecstatic after securing the top spot in breakaway roping with the fastest time of the night. “I feel great, I took an extra swing, my horse felt good, and everything turned out,” Hall said. “I said quite a few prayers before my ride.”
