In Episode 2 of “Mission Rodeo,” Chief Operations Officer and General Manager Amber Burda takes listeners behind the scenes of the process of naming the new Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™ agricultural complex along Highway 288.
The conversation explores how the Rodeo is approaching a decision that will help shape the identity of the 350-acre property, from honoring the organization’s agricultural roots and Western heritage to choosing a name that can remain meaningful for decades to come.
Rodeo volunteers played an important role from the beginning, submitting more than 2,000 potential names for the new complex. Burda explains that the process goes far beyond finding something memorable.
“We want to make sure that we create a name that is legacy-driven for Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo and particularly focuses on our mission,” Burda said.
The episode also looks beyond the complex’s name to the many ways families, businesses and community partners could eventually leave their own mark on the property as plans continue to develop. For Burda, that connection is personal.
“It’s somewhere to make memories with our mission in mind,” Burda said.
From agriculture and education to family traditions and legacy, Episode 2 offers a closer look at how the Rodeo is defining the identity of a new property designed to serve the community for generations.
