Additional Artists Announced for Bun B’s H-Town Takeover at RODEOHOUSTON®
Local rap legends will join Bun B for Rodeo’s Black Heritage Day, presented by Kroger

 

Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo officials announced today the four additional artists who will join the five previously announced artists and Bun B for their RODEOHOUSTON debut performance, March 11, 2022, for Black Heritage Day.

 

“Thanks to Bun B for helping us put this group of Houston rap legends together,” said Chris Boleman, president and CEO of the Rodeo. “We think this all-star list will make an unforgettable Black Heritage Day performance.”

 

The performance, known as Bun B’s H-Town Takeover, features Bun B and nine of Houston’s most well-known legendary rap icons, including:

MEET THE ARTISTS FROM BUN B’S H-TOWN TAKEOVER:

 

BUN B

A true Houston icon, Bun B made his debut on the rap scene in 1992 as part of the rap duo UGK. Along with the late Chad Butler, the two Port Arthur, Texas, natives pioneered a sound that has become synonymous with southern rap music. Bun B has been successful as a team and as a solo artist, releasing five solo albums throughout his career. His debut solo album, “Trill,” reached the No. 6 spot on the Billboard 200 charts. His four following albums, “II Trill,” “Trill O.G.,” “Trill O.G.: The Epilogue,” and “Return of the Trill,” all charted on Billboard’s prestigious list, as well. The rap legend has also worked with stars like Jay-Z, Beyoncé, Lil Wayne and Drake.

Bun B has expanded his reach beyond the music industry. He created “Bun B’s Rap Coloring and Activity Book” with author Shea Serrano, the “You Gotta Eat This!” food blog and recently announced his next step into the Houston restaurant scene with his burger concept, Trill Burgers. He is also an active member of the Houston community, dedicating his time to various philanthropic endeavors.

Bun B will be making his debut on the RODEOHOUSTON stage Friday, March 11, 2022, for Black Heritage Day, presented by Kroger.


PAUL WALL

Paul Wall is one of the most successful independent musicians in Texas. He’s been a pillar in the mixtape community since 1999 and his 2005 release, “People’s Champ,” reached the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s Top 200. He is known for partnering with celebrities from across the globe to create custom gold “grillz,”, and is a leader in the Houston community.


SLIM THUG

Slim Thug’s rise to Houston rap icon began when he would create guest verses on other artists’ mixtapes and albums. His unique sound helped him establish a strong following, as well as his affiliation with independent label “Swisha House.” After creating his own label, “Boss Hogg Outlawz,” Slim Thug became more than a top-tier Houston rapper, as his successful business ventures have grown to match his musical stature.


LIL FLIP

Lil Flip’s rise to fame happened quickly after his 2000 album, “The Leprechaun,” put him front and center to a national audience. Nicknamed the Freestyle King, Lil Flip caught the attention of Houston rap legend DJ Screw, who brought him into the “Screwed Up Click.” He was considered one of the south’s most promising young rappers and continues to be a well-respected Texas artist.


LIL KEKE

Lil Keke’s rap career started in the early 90s when he started working with fellow Houston legend DJ Screw. Throughout his career, he has released a steady stream of successful mixtapes and albums, as well as remixes of his music in the “chopped and screwed” style of rap. Along with solidifying his status as a Texas rap star, Lil Keke has been recognized for his dedication to the Houston community.


Z-RO

Z-Ro has set himself apart from his peers with his unique sound of rap and soulful singing. His songs about love, relationships and life on the street have made him one of the most legendary rappers in Texas. He made his solo debut in 1998 and has maintained his status as one of Houston’s most prolific rap icons for more than 20 years.


BABY BASH

Baby Bash has been on the music scene since 2001 when he released his first album, “Savage Dreams” on the independent label Dope House Records. Quickly after his debut album, he released his sophomore album “On the Cool” in 2002. Overall, he’s released nine solo studio albums and has been part of nine collaboration albums with groups like Latino Velvet and Lone Star Ridaz. Throughout his career, Baby Bash has worked with several big-name artists, including Santana and Jennifer Lopez.


FRANKIE J

Frankie J’s solo career has been going strong since his debut album “What’s a Man to Do” was released in 2003. The lead single, “Don’t Wanna Try,” reached No. 19 on the billboard Hot 100 Chart, and the same year, his next hit, “Suga Suga,” with fellow H-Town Takeover performer Baby Bash, reached the Billboard Top 10 list. His next album “The One,” is certified platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America®. He was nominated for the Best Latin Pop Album at the 56th annual GRAMMY® awards for “Faith, Hope Y Amor.”


BIG POKEY

Big Pokey began rapping in the early 1990s, releasing several songs on the mixtapes of fellow Houston legend DJ Screw. Big Pokey released his first solo album in 1999 and released a new album every year for five consecutive years. Since his debut on the Houston rap scene in 1999, he has released six studio albums and nine mixtapes. Five of his albums charted on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart, cementing his status as a Houston rap legend.


H-TOWN

In 1993, H-Town made their debut on the R&B scene with their first album “Fever for Da Flavor,” with several songs charting on the Billboard Hot 100. They won the Soul Train Music Award for Best New Artist the following year and released their second album “Beggin’ After Dark.” H-Town has seen steady R&B success throughout their career, releasing five albums with numerous chart-topping hits. Shazam Conner and G.I. Jackson have seen longevity in their iconic career, and they continue to produce the smooth sound of H-Town that their fans know and love.

 

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo promotes agriculture by hosting an annual, family-friendly experience that educates and entertains the public, supports Texas youth, showcases Western heritage and provides year-round educational support within the community.
