The Junior Market Barrow Auction showcased the overwhelming support of the swine community from across the nation, uniting longtime breeders, experienced exhibitors, and dedicated supporters under one roof.

On Friday, donors packed the seats in their signature swine pink at the 2026 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™ Junior Market Barrow Auction, showcasing the overwhelming support of the swine community from across the nation. Their generosity not only lifted Texas youth in the sale ring but also helped fuel the future of agriculture for years to come.

The auction was opened with a prayer by Lynda Winne. In her prayer she expressed her heart felt gratitude for the swine committee for all they have done for her personally and the thankfulness of what the Lord provides.

“Thank you for entrusting us with the responsibility to care for the animals placed in our hands…may we never take it for granted,” said Winne. “We lift up these young people and ask that you guide and protect them… Place a spirit of generosity in our hearts so we may continue to pour into their futures.”

Winnie was followed by Andrew Clendennen, chairman of Swine Auction Committee, who spoke about the heart behind his years of volunteer service.

“People will ask me all the time, why do you do spend so much time volunteering with HLSR? And for me it comes down to one thing, it’s the people.” said Clendennen. “If you are one of the 2,342 exhibitors that came through those doors this past week, who’ve been working your tail off for months raising your animals, getting up early before school, and staying later after putting in the work. You are why I do this.”

Landry Mabry, Crawford FFA, sold his Grand Champion Barrow for $505,000 setting a new rodeo record. He explained the preparation and support that goes into making a champion and getting to this point.

“It’s an everyday thing… it’s not just me and my brother. Every single day we grind. It’s all about the family,” said Mabry.

Donors included Bridgette & John A. Grimes, Jackie & Jon Hodges, Reytec Construction – Gregg T. Reyes, and Denise & Chris Boening.

The donors attributed the exhibitors’ hard work to their continuous support of the auction.

“The exhibitors did their part,” said John Grimes. “So we want to show that if you work hard and do things right, there’s a reward for that.”

Mason Albus, Cochran County 4-H, sold his Reserve Grand Champion Barrow for $375,000 setting a new record. He expressed his appreciation for the donors taking time out of their busy schedules to be at the auction.

“It’s about the people I get to be around.” said Albus

Donors include Lisa Blackwood & Kimberly Wilkins, Kathy & Matt Norris, Randa & Ray Gilliam, Andrew Isherwood & Jeremy Henry State Farm.

“The kids and the mission, that’s what’s important and keeps us coming back,” said Ray Gilliam.
