Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™ Announces S&B Engineers and Constructors as New Sponsor of Barrel Racing

Today, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo announced S&B Engineers and Constructors (“S&B”), a family of engineering, procurement and construction companies, as the new sponsor of the Barrel Racing competitions, held nightly during RODEOHOUSTON®. The sponsorship includes a three-year agreement.

“We are thrilled to announce S&B Engineers and Constructors as our new Barrel Racing sponsor,” said Rodeo President and CEO Chris Boleman. “Barrel Racing is one of our fan-favorite RODEOHOUSTON events and we are grateful to have such a great sponsor involved in this outstanding competition.”

“As a third-generation Houstonian, some of my earliest memories are of attending the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, S&B considers the Rodeo our premiere annual customer event. It’s also where I, and a great number of our S&B teammates, volunteer to impact the educational aspirations of Texas youth,” said J.D. Slaughter, chairman of the S&B family of companies. “S&B couldn’t be more excited and proud to be the new presenting sponsor of the RODEOHOUSTON Barrel Racing competitions.”

Barrel Racing is an all-women’s rodeo event that requires a team effort between the horse and the rider. In a race against the clock, the cowgirl guides her horse through a cloverleaf pattern — three barrels arranged in a triangle formation.

Running full speed into the arena, the rider has the option to drive her horse to either the left barrel or the right barrel, first. In an ideal situation, the rider makes sharp turns around each barrel without knocking any over. If the rider knocks over a barrel, a five second penalty will be added to the final time. In an event where every second counts, there is no room for error.
