Many youth participants turned out for the annual Youth Breeding Rabbit and Cavy Costume Contest. The event gives Texas 4-H and FFA members the opportunity to express their creativity through designing costumes and props for their animals.

Costume themes ranged from beekeepers to luau beaches. Several participants incorporated their own outfits into the theme of their displays.

Judges from the Rabbit Committee thoroughly examined each display to determine the winners in five categories: Most elaborate costume, funniest costume, best character impersonation, best rodeo-themed costume and most colorful. In addition, the judges chose an overall winner.

Sora Hudgens-White from Denison, Texas, was named the overall winner for her RODEOHOUSTON® display. Her rabbits were featured as cowboys dressed in hats as they set in the middle of a large rodeo arena.

“I have been doing a rodeo theme for years and I try to find a new thing about the Rodeo to show every year,” said Sora.

Sora first started showing rabbits after being influenced by her brother who also shares her passion.

“We started with one rabbit and now we have over 100.” Sora said.

With such a large selection, Sora knew she had to feature the right animals in costume competition.

“I always pick the most docile and calm ones that will sit there as the judges come look at them,” said Sora.

Although Sora said she was surprised to win the overall award she was happy that her display impressed the judges.

“I was really surprised,” said Sora, “I was really only going for the rodeo-themed award.”
