Nearly 100 current Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo scholars received $1.2 million in additional support through the Show’s Achievement Scholarship Program for the upcoming school year. Current Show scholars were eligible to apply for the scholarship for an additional $4,000 per semester, for up to four semesters of their junior and senior years of undergraduate studies.

The Achievement Scholarship makes it possible for each student to receive a maximum of $34,000 in Show scholarships throughout their college career.

“We were pleased to recognize the many accomplishments of these students with an $18,000 scholarship as they graduated from high school,” said Joel Cowley, president and CEO of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo. “We are now thrilled to recognize their collegiate accomplishments, confident that their talent and work ethic will continue to pay dividends to society long after they graduate from college.”

To apply, existing Show scholars must have been classified as a junior or senior by the conclusion of the 2016 spring semester; completed a minimum of four college semesters since their high school graduation; and achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher.

The 2016 achievement scholars include 99 students from nearly 18 different Texas colleges and universities. Ten students were the first in their family to graduate high school, and more than 15 were the first in their family to attend college.
