The Agricultural Mechanics Project Show Awards held Sunday, March 18, at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™, was a representation of how hard work, team work, communication and commitment can pay off for Texas youth. FFA students worked all year on their projects, and two of the 516 agricultural mechanics projects on display at the Rodeo were named Grand and Reserve Grand Champions.

The team from Priddy FFA took home the Grand Champion award for their squeeze chute. Team members Guthrie Peters, Jayden Schrank, Aaron Ivy and Cara Ivy all said they were ecstatic to win.

“We worked 2,262 hours on this project, and it feels really good to make Buffe [agricultural science teacher] proud,” Cara Ivy said.

Huntington FFA won the Reserve Grand Champion award for their 32’ hydraulic goose neck trailer. Team members were Robby Hughes, Andrew Arnold and Eli Box.

Eli, a junior at Huntington High School, said winning here at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo was an awesome way to end a yearlong project.

“Today just goes to show how much hard work we put into our project,” Eli said.

The east side of NRG Center filled with restored tractors, trailers of all kinds, chutes and other agricultural equipment to showcase all the FFA students’ hard work. The award presentation showcased the top six winning teams from each class followed by the top six from each division and ending with the overall Grand and Reserve Grand Champion.
