The Rabbit and Cavy Show Costume Contest started as a friendly competition between open show breeders, but since 2015, the youth rabbit showman has looked forward to competing in the contest each year.

This year there were over 100 entries to judge and place in the five categories: Best rodeo theme costume, funniest costume, most colorful costume, most elaborate costume and best character costume. A select amount of Vice Chairman and Vice Directors are asked to judge the elaborate costumes and decide who should win each category. The judges also chose an overall winner.

Alianna Gomez from Freeport, Texas, was selected as the overall winner at the RODEOHOUSTON® Rabbit and Cavy Costume Contest. Since Gomez’s favorite meal is crawfish, she dressed as a chef and her rabbit as a crawfish sitting on a plate.

“I decided to enter this costume contest because it’s something fun to do,” said Gomez, “it was also something new to look forward to.”

Students put in numerous hours of work on their costumes. Candice Weatherford, the parent of the Best Rodeo Theme winner, said, “From thinking up a creative costume to building the project, this has been a team effort.”

The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo always look forward to the fun entries and can’t wait for the years to come.
