The 10th anniversary of Texas Wine Celebration Day, presented by Frost, took place in the Champion Wine Garden at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™ on Thursday, Feb. 29.

The exhibition is hosted by volunteers from the Wine Garden Committee. Nineteen Texas wineries that produce wine made from Texas grapes were present at the exhibition. All the wines were previously showcased at the International Wine Competition hosted in November.

Samantha-Anne Nadolny has served as captain of the Wine Garden Committee for the past 10 years.

“Texas wine is in its own category,” Nadolny said. “We have phenomenal wine right here in our backyard made from grapes grown here.”

The HLSR raises money all year to award student scholarships. All proceeds collected by the Wine Garden Committee go directly to the scholarship fund.

Scott Palmer has served on the Wine Garden Committee for four years. What started as trips to the Champion Wine Garden, turned into volunteering to give back to an important cause.

“We drink for the kids because they cannot drink for themselves,” Palmer said jokingly.

Lynee Majek, of Majek Vineyard and Winery, was invited to participate in the show after winning the Texas Class Champion golden buckle and medal for Cardinal’s Crown Dry Red Wine.

“Wine sales are a huge part of the profit that goes towards the scholarships,” Majek said. “It’s amazing to see how many students get to benefit from it.”
