Seventy Texas FFA members from across the state were each presented with a four-year, $18,000 scholarship from the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo at the 88th Texas FFA Convention in Dallas Wednesday, July 13.

“Texas FFA prepares students for future success through a diverse offering of educational programs, many of which involve some facet of agriculture,” said Joel Cowley, Show president and CEO. “This shared vision between our organizations makes this scholarship program a very special tradition.”

The first Show scholarship was awarded to an FFA member 58 years ago and was worth $2,000. Since then, more than $25 million has been committed to nearly 2,900 Texas FFA members as part of the Show’s overall historical commitment of more than $400 million to the youth of Texas since 1932.

The Texas FFA Convention is the fourth and final summer scholarship event for the Show as part of the organization’s 2016 educational commitment of nearly $26 million, including $12.9 million dedicated to scholarships. The Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Educational Fund is a multi-million dollar program that supports calf scramble participants, junior show exhibitors, School Art participants and many other educational programs in addition to scholarships.
