ATHLETES ADVANCE TO RODEOHOUSTON® SUPER SERIES CHAMPIONSHIP FROM SEMIFINAL 2 ROUND

Round two of the RODEOHOUSTON Semifinals concluded Thursday, March 14, with 32 athletes advancing to the Super Series Championship set for Saturday, March 16.

 

TIE-DOWN ROPING

Caleb Smidt of Bellville, Texas, advanced to the RODEOHOUSTON Super Series Championship in Tie-Down Roping after winning Semifinal 2 with a time of 9 seconds. Smidt said he prefers bigger calves and set-ups, so the elements at RODEOHOUSTON are in his favor.

Advancing to the Championship Round:

  • Caleb Smidt: Bellville, Texas — $9,875
  • Riley Pruitt: Gering, Nebraska — $5,375
  • Shane Hanchey: Sulphur, Louisiana — $4,750

BAREBACK RIDING

North Dakota cowboy Ty Breuer secured his spot in the RODEOHOUSTON Super Series Championship with an 87-point ride in Semifinal 2.

Advancing to the Championship Round:

  • Ty Breuer: Mandan, North Dakota — $8,000
  • Lane McGehee: Victoria, Texas — $5,750
  • Tilden Hooper: Fort Worth, Texas — $4,500
  • Kaycee Feild: Genola, Utah — $6,250

 

TEAM ROPING

Clay Tryan and Travis Graves won the Team Roping in Semifinal 2 with a quick time of 4.7 seconds. Tryan got a great start and caught their steer quickly, which gave him a good opportunity to be fast on the heel side, Graves said.

Advancing to the Championship Round:

  • Clay Tryan: Lipan, Texas; and Travis Graves: Bluff Dale, Texas — $12,500
  • Chad Masters: Cedar Hill, Tennessee; and Joseph Harrison: Overbrook, Oklahoma — $9,500
  • Kaleb Driggers: Stephenville, Texas; and Junior Nogueira: Burleson, Texas — $8,000
  • Blake Teixeira: Clovis, California; and Jade Corkill: Stephenville, Texas — $9,500

 

SADDLE BRONC RIDING

Cody Demoss advanced to the Super Series Championship after winning the Saddle Bronc Riding in Semifinal 2 with an 87-point ride on Going South.

 

Demoss said he knew his horse and rode her well, despite a bit of a stall. “Usually she’s not that good but the stars lined up [tonight],” Demoss said.

Advancing to the Championship Round:

  • Cody Demoss: Heflin, Louisiana — $6,125
  • Ryder Wright: Beaver, Utah— $11,000
  • Jacobs Crawley: Boerne, Texas — $4,750
  • Sam Kelts: Stavely, Alberta, Canada — $6,000

 

STEER WRESTLING

Tanner Brunner had the fastest time in Semifinal 2 with a 4.6-second run to win Steer Wrestling.

 

“My horse worked really good,” Brunner said. “I knew I had a decent chance on that steer, and my main goal was to get out of the barrier.”

Advancing to the Championship Round:

  • Tanner Brunner: Ramona, Kansas — $7,500
  • Will Lummus: Byhalia, Mississippi — $4,750
  • Ty Erickson: Helena, Montana — $4,000
  • Jesse Brown: Baker City, Oregon — $3,500

 

BARREL RACING

The second cowgirl out in Barrel Racing, Carley Cervi, set the pace with a 14.32-second run. The fastest time of the night, Cervi won Semifinal 2.

Advancing to the Championship Round:

  • Carley Cervi: Pampa, Texas — $7,875
  • Brittany Tonozzi: Victoria, Texas — $8,000
  • Shali Lord: Lamar, Colorado — $4,000
  • Teri Bangart: Olympia, Washington — $8,750

 

BULL RIDING

Trevor Kastner won Bull Riding in the Super Series Semifinal 2 and advanced to the RODEOHOUSTON Championship.

 

Kastner said “He was just good, solid bull and it felt great.”

Advancing to the Championship Round:

  • Trevor Kastner: Roff, Oklahoma — $8,500
  • Brody Yeary: Stephenville, Texas — $4,000
  • Aaron Williams: Apple Valley, California — $5,000
  • Clayton Sellars: Fruitland Park, Florida — $3,250

 

The top four from each event in the Semifinal rounds will advance to the RODEOHOUSTON Super Series Championship, Saturday, March 16. The remaining six from each event in the two Semifinals will compete in the Wild Card Round, Friday, March 15, where the top two from each event will advance to the Championship. Each event champion will walk away with a $50,000 payout, in addition to previous winnings.
