Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo officials approved an educational commitment of $27,174,610 to support Texas youth and statewide educational programs in 2019. A majority of the funds will be administered through more than 800 scholarships valued at $14,286,000. To kickstart the Rodeo’s educational commitment, scholarship applications will open Monday, Nov. 5 at rodeohouston.com.
“Due to the steadfast support of our volunteers, donors, auction buyers, sponsors and attendees, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is proud to commit more than $27 million toward the education of Texas youth in 2019,” said Joel Cowley, Rodeo president and CEO. “With the 2019 commitment, the Rodeo’s lifetime commitment to youth and education now stands at more than $475 million.”
The Rodeo’s 2019 educational commitment includes:

Scholarship applications open Monday, Nov. 5, 2018, and will close Monday, Feb. 4, 2019. The two-part application process begins with an online application, followed by supplemental application documents.
More than 800 scholarships will be administered through 12 scholarship programs that allow students to pursue majors in any field of study at a Texas college or university. In addition, sizable prizes and premiums will be awarded to junior show exhibitors who participate in the 2019 Houston Livestock Show, and educational program grants will be awarded to 501(c)(3) charities and accredited institutions of higher education that align with the Rodeo’s mission.
Educational grant recipients for 2019 include Alley Theatre; Barbara Bush Houston Literacy Foundation, Big Brothers Big Sisters Lone Star; Children’s Museum of Houston; Glassell School of Art; Houston Community College; Houston Grand Opera; Houston SPCA; Houston Symphony; NASA – Texas Aerospace Scholars; Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation; and the YMCA of Greater Houston, among others.
