“We are truly a family that respects each other.”

In the world of corporate culture, it’s rare to hear employees refer to their colleagues as family. Yet, at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, this sentiment isn’t just a catchphrase—it’s reality.

Starting in January, our team shifts into high gear, often sacrificing personal time to ensure the event’s success. It’s not uncommon for staff to be away from their families for days or weeks, fully immersing themselves in “Rodeo mode.” This dedication often goes unnoticed by the public, but it’s a sacrifice our organization deeply appreciates. With a staff of 140, each member plays a crucial role in making the Rodeo the spectacular event it is today.

As one long-time employee puts it: “Hard to say I could love working here more. The 2024 Rodeo will be my 34th. I feel I have never worked a day in my life. What I do here is so rewarding, and the people I get to experience this with are amazing.”

Many of our staff members have been with us for decades, witnessing the Rodeo’s evolution firsthand. From Elvis gracing the Astrodome stage to the Jonas Brothers rocking NRG Stadium, our team has been there every step of the way.

“I love that we create an experience for millions of people each year,” shares one enthusiastic staff member. But it’s not just about the spectacle—it’s about the lasting impact.

Our commitment to education sets us apart. “We do so many great things for the students of Texas by promoting education through scholarships and grants,” one employee proudly states.

Another adds, “Our work is directly impacting the youth of Texas. As a first-generation college graduate, I know how important it is to have a support system beyond just parents. I feel like everyone at Rodeo is committed to doing their best work so that we can continue to help kids reach their goals.”

Our 35,000 volunteers are the lifeblood of the Rodeo. Our staff works tirelessly to support these dedicated individuals, fostering relationships that require passion and commitment.

“I love our volunteers,” an employee explains. “I’ve met people from all walks of life with all kinds of beliefs who show up and put in the work to make our event a success. These volunteers are kind, selfless, and hardworking.”
