Texas 4-H and FFA members credited their family support for their show ring success at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Junior Market Lamb and Goat Champion Selection Friday, March 9.

JUNIOR MARKET LAMBS

Grandview FFA member Hayden Come, 16, exhibited the Grand Champion Junior Market Lamb. Hayden said he was excited and overwhelmed to be in the winner’s circle and thanked his family for their support.

“My family has helped me with everything, from getting ready to being here when I show,” Hayden said.

Trey Bates, a 17-year-old from Leakey, Texas, showed the Reserve Grand Champion Junior Market Lamb. The Real County 4-H member said he credits his family with his success.

“I owe it all to my family and friends,” Bates said. “I couldn’t do it without them.”

JUNIOR MARKET GOATS

Dakota Martin, a 12-year-old Mason County 4-H member, exhibited the Grand Champion Junior Market Goat. She said her entire family worked together to weigh, feed and set up her goat before the show.

“It was an experience that no one could ever forget,” Dakota said, “and without God’s will it would have never been possible.”

Ten-year-old Cydnee Hanslik, a junior Jim Ned FFA member, claimed the Reserve Grand Champion Junior Market Goat title with her goat, Champ. Cydnee said she was really happy and excited when Judge Brandon Callis shook her hand.

“I thought I would do good,” Cydnee said, “but I didn’t think I’d do that good because it’s only my third year.”

Exhibitors will sell their lambs and goats in the Junior Market Lamb and Goat Auction, Saturday, March 10, at noon. The auction is open to the public and will be held in the NRG Arena Sales Pavilion.
