Grand and Reserve Grand Champion Barrows were selected at the Houston Junior Market Barrow Show on March 14, 2024, in the NRG Center East Arena.

2024 Junior Market Barrow Champions:

  • Grand – Weston Lackey, Haskell FFA
  • Reserve – Kamlynn Mason, Montgomery County

JUNIOR MARKET GRAND CHAMPION BARROW EXHIBITOR

Weston Lackey, 15, from Haskell, Texas, exhibited the Grand Champion Barrow, securing the title with his crossbred barrow.

Lackey has been surrounded by livestock his entire life. He started showing market barrows in the third grade. Immediately after securing his title, he quickly rushed to show a steer at the HLSR Market Steer Show. Lackey’s family owns a show pig operation, making his time in Houston a dream come true.

“I am excited,” Lackey said between high fives and handshakes. “I don’t really know what to do. Everything I am feeling is indescribable.”

JUNIOR MARKET RESERVE CHAMPION BARROW EXHIBITOR

Kamlynn Mason, 12, from Montgomery County, exhibited the Reserve Grand Champion, taking home the title with her crossbred barrow.

Mason grew up on a show pig operation, allowing her to develop a genuine passion for the industry. Originally planning to take her barrow to her county fair, Mason was grateful she showed this barrow on the green shavings. Tears of happiness fell down her face as she received hugs from the crowd.

“I want to thank my family and I want to thank God, because He has done so much for me,” Mason said.

The Junior Market Barrow Auction will begin at 11 a.m. on Friday, March 15, at the NRG Arena Sales Pavillion.
