Excitement filled the NRG Center East Arena as the Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion Junior Market Barrows were selected on March 16 at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™.

Sage Bearden, 14, from Crowell FFA, took home the Grand Champion title in the Junior Market Barrow Show.

Bearden has been showing market barrows since she was in third grade. She attributes her love for showing market barrows to her father, who is an ag teacher, and her older brother.

“Winning means that all of my hard work paid off in the end,” Bearden said. “It wasn’t for nothing.”

Zachary Blount, 14, from Kerr County 4-H, received the title of Reserve Grand Champion at the Junior Market Barrow Show.

Blount has also been showing market barrows since he was in third grade. He was inspired to start showing market barrows by his older sisters and his grandpa, who bred his Reserve Champion barrow.

Blount said that hard work and the support of his friends and family were his key for success.
