World Champion Mutton Bustin’
World Champion Mutton Bustin’ has made its way to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™. Instead of broncs and bulls, Mutton Bustin’ puts kids on wooly sheep.
Eligible participants must be between two and six years of age and weigh 60 pounds or less. Each day, the winner is awarded a belt buckle and the chance to participate in the championship round held the last day of the Show.
After seeing the competition on television Monday night, six-year-old Joseph Puccio, of Houston, was first in line for his chance to be Tuesday’s Mutton Bustin’ Champion. Joseph had a six-second ride and an 88 point score, which put him in first place.
Wednesday’s Mutton Bustin’ competitions are at 11 a.m., 2 p.m., 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. in the Kids Country Arena.
Rodeo Revolution
RODEOHOUSTON™ cowboys and cowgirls are competing in a tournament-style bracket with the chance of winning $50,000 in addition to their individual go-round winnings. It’s a revolution in rodeo!
The first go round at the 2008 Show is divided into five groupings, called “Super Series.” Winners of each Super Series advance to one of the two Super Series Semifinals, March 19 and 20, and then on to either the Super Series Wildcard Round, March 21, or Super Series Championship Round, March 22.
RODEOHOUSTON invites the top 50 Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association cowboys in each event and top 50 Women’s Professional Rodeo Association barrel racers to compete.
RODEOHOUSTON is the richest, regular-season PRCA rodeo, and all winnings count toward PRCA standings.

Musical Entertainment
Kevin Fowler
Wednesday, March 5, 6:45 p.m., Reliant Stadium
A native of Amarillo, Texas, Kevin Fowler grew up listening to Johnny Cash and Merle Haggard. He rounded out his musical education in Los Angeles, where he attended the Guitar Institute of Technology. He then returned to Texas, turning his full attention to his own vision of music. With his new album “Bring It On,” Fowler delivers 100 percent Texas country music with style. That’s no surprise to his myriad of fans who know every word of his honky-tonk anthems, such as “Beer, Bait and Ammo,” “The Lord Loves a Drinking Man,” and “Loose, Loud and Crazy.” In his new single, “Long Line of Losers,” Fowler pokes fun at what he calls “that somebody in everyone’s family who annoys them.” He has recorded with some of his musical heroes, including Willie Nelson and George Jones. Fowler can be described as the country rebel with a heart of rock.
Singles: “Long Line of Losers,” “Beer, Bait and Ammo,” “The Lord Loves a Drinking Man,” “Loose, Loud and Crazy”
Walt Wilkins
Wednesday, March 5, 10:15 p.m. The Hideout, Reliant Astrodome
San Antonio-born Walt Wilkins got his first musical influences as an Air Force brat, and started his first band at age 15. Playing a blend of ’70s country rock from Texas and the West Coast and blues and soul that the band grew up listening to and featuring high-quality songwriting and musicianship, rhythm, and vocal arrangements, Wilkins entertains audiences all over the state.
Alan Jackson
Thursday, March 6, 6:45 p.m., Reliant Stadium
Since 1989, Alan Jackson has sold more than 45 million records, and has recorded 31 No. 1 songs, 21 of which he composed. He has won upward of 95 Country Music Association, Academy of Country Music, GRAMMY®, ASCAP, American Music, Billboard and other industry awards. Jackson holds the record for the most CMA nominations. Not a bad record for the Newman, Ga., native who began his career as a staff songwriter at Glenn Campbell’s music publishing company. Jackson has honed his sound while staying true to his traditional roots in the country music industry.
Singles: “Small Town Southern Man,” “Like Red on a Rose,” “Monday Morning Church,” “Drive (for Daddy Gene),” “Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning),” “Gone Crazy,” “Right on the Money,” “Pop a Top,” “Remember When”
Todd Fritsch
Thursday, March 6, 10:15 p.m., The Hideout, Reliant Astrodome
Todd Fritsch is a down-to-earth, two-stepping, cattle-ranching cowboy who burst into the country music scene in 2005. Fritsch is country-to-the-bone, and there is plenty of good old Texas Swing to be found in Fritsch’s music. His recent hits have taken him to a new level, and he’s now opening shows for the likes of Lee Ann Womack, Trick Pony, Joe Nichols, Cross Canadian Ragweed and others. His new album Sawdust should open up even more markets for Todd and earn him many more fans!
