RODEOHOUSTON appearances: 2010 (Fergie performed alone in 2008)
Growing from a trio to a quartet, the Black Eyed Peas have transcended their hip-hop roots and have become a global phenomenon. The goal of the group is to connect with its audience through the most fundamental ways: making people have a good time.
In 1998, the original three members of the group, will.i.am, apl.de.ap and Taboo, released their debut album Behind the Front. The album garnered critical acclaim for the trio and its live band. The group's sophomore album, Bridging the Gap, was released in 2000, and the third album, 2003’s Elephunk, featured a new member, Fergie. Elephunk stormed the Top 40 with three singles.
Two years later, the quartet returned with its fourth album, Monkey Business, the first album co-written by all the members. The album featured the hit singles "Don’t Phunk with My Heart" and "My Humps." Two years later, the hit single "Boom Boom Pow" announced the group’s return for The E.N.D. (Energy Never Dies), its fifth album.
The Black Eyed Peas has won four Teen Choice Awards, one Soul Train Music Award, one Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Award, one MTV Video Music Award, three GRAMMY awards, one BET award and seven American Music Awards.
