Continental Breeds Rose to the top in the 2018 Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™ Supreme Champion Heifer Drive

Congratulations and happy tears surrounded the champions during the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo™ Junior Breeding Beef Heifer Supreme Champion Drive, Sunday, March 11.

Barrett Howe, an 11-year-old, from Coahoma, Texas, received the signature champion slap from the judges, and the Overall Supreme Champion Heifer title with his Limousin heifer, Diva. The Howard County 4-H member has shown livestock here for three years. Barrett said when he grows up he wants to remain involved in the industry and be a livestock judge.

“I’m so happy right now,” Barrett said. “I thought [the judges] were going to walk past me, but they stopped and I couldn’t believe it.”

Lavaca County 4-H member Lane Hagan exhibited the Overall Reserve Supreme Champion Heifer. The 9-year-old from Yoakum, Texas, said it feels really good to win this title because this is probably his heifer, Senorita’s, last show. Lane is excited for his future in showing cattle.

“I just want to stay here and raise cattle,” Lane said, “and keep on the family business.”

Both champions represented the Continental Division, and were selected from more than 2,000 heifers exhibited over the course of three days.
