  • Honey Bee – Visitors will experience an improved Honey Bee exhibit, shaped as a honeycomb, containing live hives for people to view the insects as they busily work. The exhibit will include information about pollination, how honey is made, beekeeping and the important role bees play in agriculture.
  • Rabbit – The improved rabbit exhibit, hosted by the Rabbit Committee, will feature 20 different breeds of rabbits, providing educational information and the opportunity to pet the animals.

Horse Sale

A limited number of hand-selected horses will be available at our private selection sale. These horses come from many top ranches around the country and are suited for various equine activities. All horses will be previewed prior to the sale so you can see all of them perform prior to making your final selections. A portion of the sale proceeds will support the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo Education Fund in support of scholarships and grants.


International Livestock Congress

The International Livestock Congress-USA will be held during the 2015 Show, March 4 – 5, during international Days. The International Livestock Congress-USA serves as a catalyst for exchange in the global livestock and meat supply chain by providing forums on critical issues impacting the industry.

Longhorn Trophy Steer Showdown

The Longhorn Trophy Steer Showdown will be held in the Tractor Supply Main Arena at 3 p.m., Sunday, March 8. Celebrity judges include former Texas A&M University football coach R.C. Slocum and current Texas A&M University President Dr. Mark Hussey. Approximately 30 Texas Longhorn steers will be judged from horseback.

New Contests

  • 4-H and FFA Food Challenge Contest – Tuesday, March 10, NRG Center East Arena – Similar to the Iron Chef Competition, participating teams will select a category, and using the provided ingredients and equipment, will prepare an entrée within a pre-determined amount of time. Teams will be evaluated based on presentation and questions from the judges.
  • 4-H and FFA Veterinarian Skillathon – Tuesday, March 17, NRG Center, Room TBD – This competitive event is designed to test the knowledge and skills that a 4-H or FFA member has gained through his or her involvement in a veterinary science project.
  • World Food Prize Essay Contest – Wednesday, March 4, NRG Center, Room TBD – This contest, held in conjunction with the International Livestock Congress, is open to high school students who submit a five-page essay recommending solutions for resolving one of several global issues impacting the country of their choice. As a participant, students can be selected to attend the Global Youth Institute in Des Moines, Iowa.
