Music was not Jake Owen's original career path. The country singer's initial plan was to become a professional golfer; however, Owen suffered an injury in college which led him to an unexpected future. While recovering from surgery, Owen borrowed his neighbor's guitar and learned to play. It was not long before he went from learning to performing in local bars.
In 2006, he released his first album, "Startin' With Me." Country stars such as Kenny Chesney and Brad Paisley recognized Owen's talent and added him to their tours. The golfer-turned-musician has earned 2008 Top New Male Vocalist from the Academy of Country Music and 2012 Breakthrough Artist of the Year from the American Country Awards. His latest album, "Days of Gold," was released in December 2013.
